Instructions for the STS Theoretical Examination

Below you will find the steps to follow to take, through AESA (Spanish Aviation Safety Agency), the exam to obtain the remote pilot theoretical knowledge certificate, and to be able to fly in standard scenarios (STS).

 

In order to take the STS course, AESA will ask you for the Open Category A1/A3 Drone Pilot certificate. You will have to upload this certificate to the platform when you register.

 

Steps prior to the exam

1. Access the AESA Virtual Office. To do this, you must identify yourself using one of the following methods: Cl@ve or e4f.


🇪🇸 If you are a Spanish citizen, access through the ‘Cl@ve’ identification method by clicking on the Access button.

If you are a foreigner, access through the ‘e4f’ identification system. To use it, the user must register using their valid passport number.


2. Apply to take the test on the EASA website (Home > Training and Examinations > Standard Scenario Specific Category (STS) Pilot Test.


⚠️ AESA takes 3-5 days to approve the application.

⚠️ AESA makes us present the documents that certify us as A1/A3 pilots. This is a prerequisite to take the exam.


3. Accept the notification. AESA will notify you by e-mail that you have been accepted to take the exam on their platform. You must accept the notification in order to access the procedure!


4. Log in to the training platform. When you receive the notification you must enter the e-mail and access it. You will find an attached document with the link to the platform to take the exam.


5. Download SMOWL
. Follow the instructions on the training platform to download SMOWL, an application that allows us to take the exam remotely as it monitors our screen during the test by means of video and audio, checking with our ID card that we are us.


6. Install Google Chrome and Google Translator. For non-Spanish speaking students it is important to download the Google Chrome browser and the Google Translator plugin if you want to choose the language of the questions at the time of the exam.



You have two chances to pass the exam with a total of more than 75 points.
