STS operations manual: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between STS-01 and STS-02?
STS-01 covers flights in visual line of sight with C5 drones over a controlled ground area in a populated environment. STS-02 covers flights beyond visual line of sight, up to 2 km from the pilot, with C6 drones over a controlled ground area in a sparsely populated environment.
Do I need a C5 or C6 class drone?
Yes. STS-01 requires a drone with a C5 class identification label and STS-02 a drone with a C6 label. If you are not sure, check the label on your drone or ask the manufacturer for its EU-type examination certificate. If your drone has no C5 or C6 label, a PDRA may be the right route.
