Drone Inspections in BVLOS - How to obtain flight permits through PDRA

More and more sectors are employing the use of drones, and one of the most prominent is inspections. These drone inspections offer significant advantages, such as cost reduction, greater safety and efficiency in tasks that traditionally involved risks for workers or high logistical costs.

What does BVLOS mean?

A large percentage of drone inspection operations are conducted in BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) mode, which allows the drone to operate beyond the visual range of the pilot. This capability is especially valuable for tasks such as power line inspection, where the drone can cover long distances and access hard-to-reach areas without compromising operator safety.

Revolutioner Sectors with BVLOS

The deployment of drones in BVLOS inspections is revolutionising sectors such as energy, infrastructure and transport, opening up new possibilities for the monitoring and maintenance of critical assets.

Predefined Risk Assessments

Due to high demand from the industry, EASA has developed PDRAs (Predefined Risk Assessments) for UAS operators to use. These PDRAs facilitate the process of obtaining authorisations, as they are predefined standards that allow competent authorities to process applications more quickly, significantly reducing waiting times for operators.

In our blog you can find more information on the types of PDRAs currently published.
